Low Brass Cruise to Alaska May 28, 2016 - information letter

Posted on 05 December 2015

Dear Friends (and Low Brass players),

Gordon Cherry, Ralph Sauer, and Jeff Reynolds (plus spouses) and many others have planned a 7-day Alaska Cruise departing on Saturday, May 28th from Vancouver BC, roundtrip on the Holland America ship the Nieuw Amsterdam. We cordially invite you to join us.

We’re calling it:  “The Low Brass Cruise to Alaska”

This is will be a fun adventure that we want to share with friends and colleagues. There are no payments or fees for those participating in the musical part of the cruise–just a group of trombonists and friends going on a trip together for a week.

Here is a link to the cruise for you to see what it is and where it is going:

We have spoken to our agent from Holland America, and there are lots of pluses if we book together as a group. Our agent for this cruise is Dea Houghton. To receive the perks (see below) for the cruise, you should book through her (she works for Holland America). To reserve a spot or to get more information about The Trombone Cruise to Alaska, her phone is 800-355-3017 ex. 29355. (Voice mail is answered promptly.) Her email is: DHoughton@HollandAmerica.com.

We are planning an hour or a bit more per day (around 4 pm) for a trombone meeting. We will do some ensemble playing and talk about music in general and trombone playing specifically. It should be entertaining for auditors as well, and Holland America will supply a room with refreshments. The rest of the day would be for excursions and walking around the ports or whatever. Towards the end of the week, we will perform a short concert on the ship and possibly another concert onshore at a church around day five.

The Holland America line is excellent, and they will treat us like kings (and queens) on this great ship–the best in their fleet. We have done about 6-8 cruises with them, and they will give us the best deal possible with discounts from the published rates. There are specials such as guaranteed lowest price, upgrades and lowered deposit that come up from time to time and Dea has promised us that we will be able to get the best deal possible. Final payment is due March 14, 2016. We hope that you can join us.

For more information, contact Gordon Cherry (gcherry@shaw.ca) or 604-261-5454.

To see who else is going, visit the notice right next to this one for the "Attendees List". So far we have 18 in our group.

Please make sure to let Gordon know if you’re onboard.

Pass this email along to friends and colleagues if you think they may be interested.

Sincerely,

Gordon Cherry
