ANGELO CASTRONOVO
Born in Italy in 1977, he graduated in clarinet in 1998 from the Italian Conservatory of Pescara, later completing his studies at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome with Alessandro Carbonare.
In 2004, he graduated in Law and practiced law from 2007 to 2024.
In 2013, he graduated in Jazz Composition with Pierpaolo Pecoriello at the Pescara Conservatory.
He is actively composing, primarily for symphony orchestra and symphonic band.
In 2023, he won first prize at the 2nd «Il Saxofono Italiano» Composition Competition, organized by SaxIt in collaboration with the Italian Society of Contemporary Music, with the composition Scene Ritmiche for saxophone quartet.
His Concertino for Alto Sax and Strings was performed in 2024 at the Conservatory of Bologna by Daniele Faziani (saxophonist with the National Orchestra of Italian Television - RAI Turin) and the other teachers of the Institute; the same composition was also performed by I Musici di Parma in the Masterclass held by Mario Marzi (saxophonist with the Orchestra of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan) aspart of the Salso Summer Class Festival in Salsomaggiore.
His piece Rio-MaMa has been performed several times by Mario Marzi during various masterclasses organized by the Italian Conservatory of Lecce.
Two of his pieces were recently published by Da Vinci Publishing of Osaka: Debordata Music, concerto for two bassoons and string orchestra; Mi Sonrisa Para Ti (Impresiones), a symphonic poem. The latter composition was performed by the Gioachino Rossini Philharmonic of Pesaro and the O.S.G.E. (European Youth Symphony Orchestra). Among his published compositions for symphonic band are Gli Anelli, Crux - Regnavit a ligno Deus, Un Bimbo alla Festa, Albahaca (a concerto for trombone and band), and 14 agosto (three movements for band).
In 2025, his Requiem for tenor, baritone, male choir, and orchestra was performed.
In addition to the aforementioned compositions, he is also the author of: L’Alfiere, an opera in three scenes and a prologue for soloists, choir, and orchestra; ClAmor, a concerto for clarinet and orchestra; MyLittle Dafne, a symphonic poem for orchestra, also written in a version for symphonic band; Heroes, a piece for symphonic orchestra, also written in a version for symphonic band; Valcamusica, a sonatina for symphonic band; All’Albergo Centrale, a musical; and numerous pieces for chamber music ensembles.
He also writes transcriptions and arrangements for the clarinet quartet «Tetraclà», of which he is also a performer.
His transcription for symphonic band of Blazhevich’s Trombone Concerto No. 2 (originally written for trombone and piano) was performed at Stanford in 2026 by soloist Aldo Caternia and the Stanford Wind Orchestra conducted by Maestro Giancarlo Aquilanti.
In June 2026, he won first prize at the 3rd International Composition Competition 'Armonie dello Stilaro' for solo Alto Sax and Band, with his piece Lux Matris, which soloist M° Vincent David performed in August 2026.
Then, in July 2026, the world premiere of his piece Acutis, a 3-movement work for choir and symphony orchestra, was performed by the European Youth Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2010 he has taught clarinet in Italian public schools.
