Karg-Elert

Sigfrid Karg-Elert was born in Germany in 1877 and died in 1933. He played oboe in a regimental band during WWI. He spent much of his life playing and teaching organ and piano in Leipzig and attended the Leipzig Conservatory. He wrote many works for various types of organs. His works are said to exhibit much French influence, which was not in style in Germany in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Karg-Elert himself described himself as an “outsider.”
