Details

The Three Folksongs (Drei Volkslieder), op. 49 by Arnold Schoenberg were composed in 1948 for a cappella four-part mixed choir. The melodies date back to the 15th and 16th centuries and represent a fascinating return to traditional tonal roots late in the composer's career.

Ralph Sauer has beautifully arranged these lovely songs for four trombones, suitable for moderately advanced performers and total about 9 minutes in length.

Below is an example of them sung by the Stuttgart Südfunk-Chor conducted by Rupert Huber.

Printed in Canada.
