Olsen
Ole Olsen (1850 - 1927) was an organist, composer, conductor and military musician, was born in the city of Hammerfest, the world's northernmost city. A child prodigy, he started substituting for his father who worked as a church organist from the age of seven. Olsen's first studies were in Leipzig. Later, he moved to Oslo, where he started working as a composer, conductor and music teacher. In 1899 he was appointed Musical Inspector of the Norwegian Armed Forces. As a composer he wrote in a national romantic style, using elements from Norwegian folk music. His compositions include a symphony, five operas, and several orchestral pieces, cantatas and marches.
