Silveri

Domenico Silveri was born in Tolentino on October 31, 1818; he completed his elementary studies at the Jesuit college in Urbino; then he moved (1831-1835) to the Campana college in Osimo where he discovered and began to cultivate his passion for music.

After completing his high school studies he moved to Rome and in 1836 he joined the Papal Noble Guard Corps. This Military Corps, formed exclusively by representatives of the noble families of the Papal States was a prestigious military institution that had the high task of ensuring the personal safety of the Pope during his travels, and therefore played a prominent role within the Papal Court.

In Rome Silveri frequented society life of the Roman aristocracy and continued to cultivate an interest in music, perfecting his skills as a composer as well as his cello technique. Here he began the school of harmony and counterpoint and while in Macerata he deepened his preparation under the guidance of the composer Nicola Mici. Around 1843 he also met Gioacchino Rossini who appreciated and encouraged him in his compositions. In 1844, he composed a symphony for symphony orchestra which was performed at the Teatro Argentina in Rome.
