Zhang

Patrick Pengqiu Zhang hails from Shanghai, China, now locates in Vancouver, BC, Canada. He just earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Bass Trombone from the University of British Columbia, instructed by Ilan Morgenstern and Andrew Poirier, where he also plays the Euphonium taught by Jim Hopson.

Patrick started his musical life in the wind ensemble of CWI Children’s Palace on the tenor Trombone, studies with the former principal trombone of Shanghai Opera Orchestra, Zongnian Wu. His later journey in the symphonic wind ensemble of the High School Affiliated to Fudan University gradually turned him into the world of the Bass Trombone, which he was majored in for the university.

Besides playing the Trombone, Patrick also shows great enthusiasm and various styles in the composition. Be selected as one of the 10 finalists in 2018 by the Very Young Composers in Music In the Summer Air (MISA) held by both Shanghai Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic, he got his original work 鄉韻詩情 (Rural Charm and Poetic Sentiment) world premiered in the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra.
