Groves

 

Wayne Groves began his musical studies at age 10 in the public schools in Calistoga, California. He continued his studies at the California State University at Hayward (now C.S.U. East Bay), graduating with high honors in 1982. He continued his studies at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City where he obtained the Masters of Music degree. In 1984, he was named Second Trombone of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and in 1986, was appointed Principal Trombone of this orchestra. During his time in the Singapore Symphony, he took part in a number of Asian and European tours, served as low brass instructor for the Singapore Youth Orchestra and Singapore Armed Forces Bands.

In 1997, Groves was named Principal Trombone of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Aguascalientes in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and has served in this capacity through the present. During his time in Aguascalientes, he has served as low brass instructor at the Manuel M. Ponce and Victor Sandoval Music Schools and in 2010 was appointed low brass Professor for the newly formed Music Department at the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes. He is also the founder of the Aguascalientes Trombone and Tuba Ensemble, has been a frequent guest artist at Mexico’s National Trombone Week. He has appeared as soloist various times with both the Singapore Symphony and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Aguascalientes and has performed recitals in Mexico, Singapore, Canada and the USA. His principal teachers were Mark Lawrence, Daniel Livesay and Per Brevig.
