Haskins

A native of North Bay, Ontario, David Haskins is the Associate Principal Horn of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since 2008. Before coming to Vancouver, he was Principal Horn of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra and instructor of horn at the University of Windsor. During this time he was active as a freelancer in the Toronto area and has performed with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. He was also first horn in the premiere production of "The Lord of the Rings" at the Princess of Wales Theatre in Toronto. He has also performed in Japan as Principal/Third Horn of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra for their 2002-2003 season. In addition to his orchestral work, David has appeared in the VSO Chamber Players series and has performed regularly with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet.

An alumnus of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, David holds degrees in performance from the University of Toronto and McGill University. He is also an Associate of the Royal Conservatory at Toronto (ARCT), for which he earned a Gold Medal in the discipline of Orchestral Instruments. He studied with Joan Watson, Christopher Gongos and John Zirbel.

David has been a faculty member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestral Institute and Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and currently teaches horn at the VSO School of Music.
