Poirier
Andrew Poirier hails from Lewisporte, Newfoundland. An accomplished trombonist, Andrew recently completed three seasons with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra as Acting Principal Trombone and one season as Acting Bass Trombone. He performs, tours and records with orchestras and other ensembles all over Canada. He is also the trombonist, manager and chief arranger of the Vancouver Brass Project.
Andrew began his musical studies in the Salvation Army. After earning his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia, he continued his education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music earning a Master of Music Degree in Orchestral Performance. Andrew has studied with Mark Lawrence, Gordon Cherry and Kenneth Knowles.
He presently holds the position of second trombone in the Vancouver Symphony. In addition to maintaining an active schedule as an orchestral musician, Andrew has recorded and toured extensively with the Canadian chamber music ensemble iTromboni. His work as a soloist and orchestral musician has afforded him the opportunity to perform throughout North America, the Netherlands, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Japan and Indonesia. Andrew has also performed and recorded with legendary trumpeter Jens Lindemann in his production Brassfire at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Andrew continues to be in demand as a soloist and conductor with Salvation Army bands across Canada, The United States and Europe.
