A native of South Florida, Joseph Alvarez is currently pursuing his doctorate from the University of Illionis at Urbana-Champaign, where he studies with Mark Moore. Joseph received his Masters of Music degree from Northwestern University, where he studied with Rex Martin and he earned his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of South Florida, where he studied with Jay Hunsberger.
Joseph held the tuba position with Sinfonia da camera from 2014-2016 and has performed with several ensembles including the New World Symphony, Illinois Symphony, Champaign-Urbana Symphony, Millikin-Decatur Symphony, Kenosha Symphony, Joliet Symphony, and Dal Niente. Joseph was the tuba fellow at the Music Academy of the West from 2011-2013 where he studied with Mark Lawrence and Ralph Sauer.
In 2010, Joseph was the tuba fellow of the National Repertory Orchestra.
