Eckert
A native of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, Steven Eckert served the Miami area as a trombonist and music educator for a decade before relocating to the Canadian West Coast. A lecturer at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, he was a founding instructor of the Experiential Music Curriculum and The Frost Method®.
He served as principal trombonist of Opera Naples, Orchestra Miami, and Gulfshore Opera and played extensively with South Florida orchestras including New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas, the Boca Raton Symphonia under James Judd, and the Frost Symphony Orchestra under Gerard Schwarz. He has performed collaboratively with leaders in the industry such as Ben Folds, Arturo Sandoval, Willy Chirino, Nicole Henry, Jon Secada, and "The Who."
His private studio of low brass instrumentalists, pianists, and composition students have gone on to pursue studies in music at top accredited schools, nationally and internationally, including Boston Conservatory, UCLA, Indiana University, and the University of Music and Performing Arts of Vienna. Dr. Eckert attained a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Virginia Tech before completing a Master of Music at the University of Miami. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trombone Performance with a Cognate in Music Theory from the Frost School.
