Hanson

Educated at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) and with a doctorate in Performance and Literature from the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, Wesley Hanson is a performer, teacher, conductor, and composer/arranger of music. Proficient on the low brass instruments of trombone and euphonium, he is also a concert singer with extensive experience in opera, oratorio, and the art song. Following his early retirement from Ball State University, where he was the Trombone professor, Dr. Hanson combined his interest in history with his musical abilities and began to research and perform the music of the Civil War period of American History. He appears regularly at the Sharpsburg, Maryland, Heritage Festival, held in connection with the anniversary of the Civil War battle of Antietam in 1862, where he is a local favorite. He has also done his program at numerous venues including the Chambersburg (PA) Civil War Seminar, The Gettysburg Experience, Fort Wayne’s Lincoln Museum, various Civil War Round Tables and historical societies.
