iTromboni
iTromboni is one of Canada’s most entertaining and versatile chamber music ensembles. These musicians are unified by their choice of instrument but come from all corners of the nation to form a dynamic quintet better known as the Team Canada of Trombones. Over the course of fifteen years and thousands of performances, this truly Canadian ensemble has travelled the country challenging the barriers and stereotypes that have kept the trombone in the back row of the band for far too long.
Innovative by nature, their unique style can best be described as classical with a twist. iTromboni’s well-crafted performances include repertoire from baroque to romantic, operatic to jazz, popular to original compositions, all carefully chosen to showcase the versatility of the instruments and the high-quality musicianship of each artist.
The group plays to rave reviews for audiences from coast to coast and takes centre stage at some of Canada’s most prestigious concert venues including the Chan Centre for the Performing Arts in Vancouver, Edmonton’s Winspear Centre for Music, Place-des-arts in Montreal and Ottawa’s National Arts Centre. iTromboni has worked with renowned instrumentalists including Jens Lindemann, Wycliffe Gordon, Pat Sheridan, Martin Hackleman, Ariel Barnes, and Angèle Dubeau’s La Pietà; has been televised internationally in partnership with the Banff Centre for the Arts and the Smithsonian Institute; and is heard regularly on CBC radio. iTromboni is proud to collaborate with Canadian composers in the commissioning of new works and has premiered works by Elizabeth Raum, Derek Charke, Jocelyn Morlock, Owen Underhill and Nicholas Francis to name but a few. Their critically acclaimed CDs there goes the neighbourhood and The Bad and the Beautiful are distinctly Canadian yet enjoy worldwide appeal.
Not confined to the concert hall, iTromboni is heralded by educators, parents and students alike for their invigorating educational and outreach programs. With a knack for engaging young audiences, their fully bilingual presentations promote music appreciation, participation and discovery.
