LaFratta

Mark J. La Fratta, is a native of Richmond, Virginia. He holds a BA in Government and International Studies from the University of Notre Dame (1978) and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the College of William and Mary Law School (1981) and is a partner with Richmond based law firm McGuireWoodsLLP. He and his wife Cynthia Craig La Fratta recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary. They have 4 daughters, 3 sons-in-law and 6 grandchildren. He was featured euphonium soloist with the Notre Dame Band on two national tours, played for a Papal Mass when John Paul II visited Baltimore, and for a visit by the Archbishop of Canterbury to Richmond. He frequently plays alto and tenor trombones and euphonium solos for area church services, and with the James River Brass (a brass quintet) and the James River Trombones (a trombone quartet). He has also played as a substitute or extra player for the Richmond Symphony on trombone, euphonium and bass trumpet. He performs on (i) Shires Eb/D alto and tenor trombones, (i) a Markus Leuchter alto Eb/D sackbut, (iii) a Bohm tenor sackbut, and a Besson (Buffet) euphonium In addition to his arrangements available from Cherry Classics, he and Dr. Richard I Schwartz, jointly prepared a series of modern editions of arias from 18th century Italian and Austrian composers (including Antonio Caldara, Johan Josef Fux, Marc’Antonio Ziani, J.S.Bach, W.A.Mozart, and Joseph I von Habsburg) for voice with obbligato trombone and organ that are published in England.
