Trombonist Brian McDonie is an experienced musician, teacher, and creator who has performed in a wide variety of musical settings. These include the Scranton Brass Orchestra, Chester County Pops, Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, Indiana University Ensembles, Marine Corps Bands, and many small ensembles. Brian can be heard on several CDs under both the MSR and Mark records labels. In addition to performance, he also maintains an active teaching studio and has created several small ensemble performance events and projects.
A native of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Brian is a graduate of the Naval School of Music Marine Detachment. At the Naval School of Music, Brian completed the basic musician course of study and is currently stationed in Cherry Point, North Carolina. He performs with the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing Band across Southeastern United States. Brian was previously stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Prior to enlisting in the Marine Corps, Brian attended Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. At Indiana, he played in both large and small campus ensembles in addition to community ensembles, and also served as the graduate assistant for the trombone studios. Prior to Indiana University, Brian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in music education and music performance from West Chester University, ---where he studied trombone with Haim Avitsur.
Brian is happily married to his wife Sarah, a fellow lover of breakfast foods and outdoor adventures.
