Mendelssohn-Hensel

Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel was the oldest of the four children born to the distinguished family in Hamburg. She showed prodigious musical ability as a child and began to compose. Fanny was limited by the prevailing attitudes towards women but her famous brother was encouraging.

In recent years her music has become better known thanks to concert performances, CD's and by those researching female musical creativity, of which she is one of the relatively few well-documented exemplars in the early 19th century (Wikipedia).
