Thomas Tallis was one of the great composers of English sacred music. Born at the beginning of the16th Century, very little is known about his personal life other than his musical output. He lived through four monarchs and four changes of religion back and forth from Catholicism to Protestantism and then back again twice again. His music is restrained, moody and reflective. His composing career spanned from the early 1530's till his death sometime around 1585. He was a loyal Catholic but managed to survive the religious upheavals adeptly.
