Thompson J Mark

Dr. J. Mark Thompson joined the faculty of NSU in fall 2000. He has taught previously at Coe College and Kirkwood Community College, both in Cedar Rapids, IA, and most recently (from 1992-2000) at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. He became a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music with a College Faculty Certificate in Brass awarded by the Music Teachers National Association in 1997. A charter life member of the International Trombone Association, Dr. Thompson has been a member of its Publications and Literature Committee since 1989, and his writings have appeared in the International Trombone Association Journal. His book, French Music for Low Brass Instruments, was published by Indiana University Press. Another book, Solos for the Student Trombonist, 2d ed. is forthcoming. Dr. Thompson holds a Bachelor of Music, summa cum laude, from Murray (KY) State University, an MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California, and MA, MFA and DMA degrees from the University of Iowa. Previously a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Dr. Thompson is Bass Trombone with the Shreveport Symphony Orchestra and the Lancaster (OH) Festival, and Principal Trombone with the Longview Symphony Orchestra. Dr. Thompson has performed with the Aspen Festival Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, and the Houston Symphony.
