Velazquez

Leonardo Velázquez Valle (November 6, 1935 – July 20, 2004) was a Mexican composer. He was born on November 6, 1935, in the city of Oaxaca . His family was originally from a town with a great musical tradition: Villa Hidalgo Yalalag, a Zapotec community located in the Sierra de Juárez . At the age of eight he emigrated with his family to Mexico City . In the Federal District he entered a course for children at the National Conservatory of Music , where he began his musical training with maestro Agustín Montiel Castillo. Later he studied percussion with maestro Carlos Luyando, first timpanist of the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico . At the age of sixteen he began to compose small works under the guidance of maestro Blas Galindo .

He died on July 20, 2004 on the beaches of Varadero, Cuba.
