Details
Three Beeches for Bass Trombone and Piano by John Frith was written in 2021 for Bass Trombone virtuoso, Jonathan Warburton, a good friend and colleague of the composer.
The 3.5-minute work is inspired by three ancient beech trees located in Lampeter, Wales, UK, close to the composer's home. The trees are "majestic, beautiful and inspirational" according to Frith.
The music begins with a simple and quiet melody, gradually adding more and more complexity and agitation, until the explosive climax at the end.
This is appropriate for advanced performers.
Here is an excerpt from the ITA Journal review of this work:
'I offer a strong salute to Mr. Frith both for writing as much as he has for bass trombone and for doing such an outstanding job!' (Philip Brink, Jan 2019)
