Sergei Prokofiev's March, Op. 99 is one of several that he composed for military band. This 1943 composition was written at a time when many Russian composers were showing their support during the struggle of WW II. The march was a political composition written in honor of May Day and first performed on a radio broadcast for the 1944 May Day celebration.

Mischievous humor is very evident in this march, sounding like it could fit into a big-top circus show with clowns running around (is there some sarcasm in it possibly, mocking the Soviet government).

This work has been wonderfully arranged for Brass Choir and Percussion by Jim Tempest and is suitable for advanced performers. Instrumentation for this brilliant work is:

E-flat Trumpet, 3 B-flat Trumpets, Flugelhorn, 3 Horns, 3 Trombones, 2 Euphoniums, Tuba and 5 Percussion.
