Serenade for Strings, Opus 48 was composed in 1880 and quickly became one of Tchaikovsky's most popular works, modeled after Mozart and the Classical era's musical structure.

The Finale (Tema russo) based on two Russian folk melodies, begins slowly and then revs up into the Allegro, finally being tied all together with a quotation from the opening movement's grandiose theme.

Robert Coutler has done a brilliant job arranging this masterpiece of 8-minutes in length for a 12-part Brass Ensemble with the following instrumentation:

Piccolo Trumpet in B-flat, 2 Trumpets in C, 1 Trumpet in B-flat, 4 Horns, 3 Trombones and Tuba. The work is appropriate for advanced performers.
