Details

Debussy wrote Music for King Lear, a five-minute work in 1904 for a production of King Lear. The music is in A-B-A form beginning with a fanfare containing a combination of open and complex chords, giving it an ancient sound. The middle section is a relaxed intermezzo called "Lear Asleep" which is followed by a return to the fanfare.

The music has been beautifully scored by Ralph Sauer for a 16-part large Brass Ensemble with Timpani and Percussion and is appropriate for advanced performers.

Mr. Sauer has dedicated this work to the memory of Adolf “Bud” Herseth.

The sample soundtrack is beautifully performed by the Vancouver Brass Orchestra (without percussion).
