Details

Concerto No. 2 for Trombone by Vladislav Blazhevich was composed in 1924, one of 13 concertos he wrote for the instrument. This brilliant arrangement, the first of its kind for Wind Ensemble is by Angelo Castronovo and features the virtuosity of the Trombone.

The first movement has an opening introduction followed by a strongly rhythmic theme flowing into the lyrical Andante-style 2nd movement. The third and final movement features a jaunty dance in 6/8 time.

The music is in a Russian fully romantic style and about 16 minutes in length, appropriate for advanced performers.

Instrumentation for the Wind Ensemble is:

Solo Trombone, 2 Flutes and Piccolo, Oboe, 3 Clarinets in B-flat, E-flat Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, 2 Alto Saxes, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, 3 Trumpets in B-flat, 2 Horns, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Double Bass, Harp, Timpani, Triangle, Snare Drum, Cymbals, Bass Drum.
