The Music Method
Ballads & Jazz Stylings - Volume I
by Toby Oft - edited by Shawn Davern
Toby Oft has created the ultimate guide to unleash the artistry of the modern trombonist! Featuring the amazing artwork of Jeffrey Curnow, The Music Method - Ballads & Jazz Stylings - Volume I, a 100% digital work (perfect for use on a tablet such as an iPad), contains six of the greatest jazz standards ever written:
I'm Getting Sentimental Over You (Tommy Dorsey theme) - Bassman
Wave - Jobim
A Night in Tunisia - Gillespie
Misty - Garner
Pure Imagination - Bricusse/Newley
I Get Along Without You Very Well - Carmichael
Equally important are pages of detailed notes by Toby explaining how to practice properly and correctly in order to master the jazz ballad style.
A foreword about this great book by Michael Davis says it all:
Toby Oft has done it again! Following the success and acclaim of his first book, The Music Method - Unleash Your Artistry , Toby taps into his vast expertise and virtuosic abilities to bring us a much needed musical resource, The Music Method: Ballads & Jazz Stylings - Volume I . His insights and experience are at the forefront of every aspect of this book, capturing my attention from the first few pages of his Practice Tenets! I could not agree more heartily with every one of his ideas and teachings. If you follow the framework that Toby displays in these pages, you are guaranteed success on the instrument. The method that Toby delivers within these pages is well worth the price of admission.
This book is best used with a tablet such as the iPad, but works fine as well on a desktop screen. QR codes and clickable links will transport the reader to a collection of curated recordings for the ballads in this major opus. Piano accompaniments for free download can be found separately at the
