Overture to Egmont by Ludwig van Beethoven has been beautifully arranged for 11-part Brass Ensemble & Timpani by Randall Malmstrom. The work was composed as part of a larger set of incidental works in 1810 for a play that commemorated 16th-century martyr Lamoral, Count of Egmont for his heroic stand against the Spanish inquisition which led to the death by torture of many thousands of Jews for refusing to convert to Catholicism over a period of 360 years ending in 1834.

The 8 1/2 minute overture is powerful, expressive and triumphant, a joy to perform and listen to. Malmstrom has scored it for Trumpet in E-flat, 2 Trumpets in B-flat, 4 Horns, 3 Trombones, Tuba and Timpani and is suitable for advanced performers.

The Egmont Overture was performed at the memorial service commemorating the kidnapping and murders of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Summer Olympics.
