Here is what composer Richard Cioffari says about his Concerto Iberico for Trumpet and Piano (reduction).

Concerto Iberico for Trumpet and Orchestra was written for my good friend Paul Neebe who is known to the trumpet world as a commissioner and discoverer of works for solo trumpet. It was a joy to work with such a fine performer as Paul in the process of composition, and for the preparation of the premiere with conductor Kate Tamarkin and the Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra and subsequent recording (Albany Records) of Paul with conductor Steven White and the Kosiče Symphony Orchestra in Slovakia.

The work is in three movements, and is designed as a showpiece for trumpet, showing the full range of what I think it does best. The "Ibérico" designation is a result of the Spanish flavor that inspired much of the piece. This piano reduction was done by me to make it available to more players in a more practical form.

As a performance note or two, particularly in the first movement, except for the little fugal area, the style calls for a general "over-dotting" of the dotted eighth-notes followed by sixteenth-notes which makes the sixteenths sound later than written. The same applies to the third movement, although to a lesser extent because the quicker tempo provides some of that desired compressed effect.

I hope you enjoy Concerto Ibérico!
Richard Cioffari

This Piano reduction version of the concerto is about 23 minutes in length for C Trumpet and suitable for very advanced performers.
