He is a leading professional Trombonist in North America, having performed as Principal Trombonist of the Vancouver Symphony, and the CBC Radio Orchestra. Heroes and Friends Suite for Brass Ensemble and Percussion by Wesley Knox Ramsay is a four-movement suite for triple brass quintet, commissioned by TriStar Brass. The first three movements are dedicated to Heroes and Friends of the composer.

Movement 1: Overture for Eberhard Ramm and Gilbert Long, Movement 2: Waltz for George (Tidwell), Movement 3: Ballad for Henry (Romersa) and Movement 4: Finale is dedicated to Rex Peer (of blessed memory) and Herb Bruce.

The instrumentation is for 4 Trumpets in C, 2 Flugelhorns in B-flat, 3 Horns, 3 Trombones, 3 Tubas (2 Euphoniums and Tuba) and Percussion (Timpani and Drum set). This dramatic and beautifully expressive work is suitable for advanced performers and is about 11 minutes in length.
