Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) was a French organist, pianist, composer and professor at the Paris Conservatoire. A prolific composer, he produced many great works, including operas, symphonies, concerti, chamber, and choral works.

Cavatine, Op. 144 was written in 1915 as a musical gift to Boston Symphony trombonist George W. Stewart who helped with the composer's trans-Atlantic voyage to North America as the special guest of the World's Fair in St. Louis.

The 5-minute work has become one of the most popular solos in the trombone repertoire with its beautiful phrases and expressive feel.

This great music has been beautifully arranged for Bass Trombone and Piano by Wade Goodwin.

The recording below is performed by the arranger Wade Goodwin.
