The Flying Dutchman (Der fliegende Holländer) is a German opera composed by Richard Wagner, first performed in 1843 in Dresden. The work is relatively an early one and exhibits styles that became hallmarks of his later operas.

The music is dramatic, expressive, tempestuous and mysterious.

The Overture, brilliantly arranged by Randall Malmstrom is scored for an 11-part Brass Ensemble and Timpani with the instrumentation of 3 Trumpets in C, 4 Horns, 3 Trombones, Tuba and Timpani.

The Overture is appropriate for advanced performers and is 9-minutes in length.
