Brahms wrote eleven Organ Chorale Preludes for his Opus 122 work. Jay Hilfiger’s arrangement of “Es ist ein Ros’ Entsprungen” or “Lo, How a Rose E’er Blooming”, for Brass Quartet (2 Trumpets in B-flat, 2 Trombones & Horn substitute parts for Trombone 1 and Trumpet 2) beautifully captures the intent of the composer. The piece is about four minutes in length, and is lyrical and expressive.

Musicians have agreed that this is a sublime work of true genius. Traditionally this Chorale is performed at Christmas in both Catholic and Protestant traditions, but is beautiful at any time of the year.
